Sydney Kingsford Smith from Botany Bay, showing the one-of-a-kind ATC tower and the central business district skyline. . . My series Airportraits visualizes air traffic around the world. Shot on 5 continents and at 15 airports, the images show air travel in a way that allows us to appreciate the beauty of flight, the volume of air traffic at some of the world's largest airports, and how globalization is realized through aviation. The variety of aircraft that land at @frankfurtairport every day is incredible. This photo shows a day's worth of aircraft types and liveries approaching runway 25L over the iconic German autobahn. There were amazing storms overhead on this day which made for great photography and even a few missed approaches, like the Lufthansa a380 pictured. . Zurich Airport runways 28 and 16. The use of intersecting runways make for a very unique image. Shot over the course of 8 hours during an idyllic Swiss summer day! No turn before shoreline. Anyone who has flown out of LAX may be familiar with these signs at the end of each runway, put in place for noise abatement. This image shows 3 hours worth of traffic off LAX runway 24L, in the hours before sunset when the planes are lit from the sun below. . .
